Oversize portraits of women adorn the façades of the bridgehead buildings of the Nibelungen bridge in Linz. They embody an archive of women cosmonauts and astronauts who, despite their intense participation in spaceflight, were given hardly any public recognition, hence leading to their faces being almost unknown to audiences at large. While many people are even familiar with the names of the first animals in space, the identity of the women pioneers have remained widely unknown. The project aims to give visibility to women in male-dominated professions and strives to conquer and appropriate space. It tries to position photographic archives in public space and generate visibility for the achievements of women.
